Nike Air Force 1 | Foot Locker Australia
It’s been over 30 years since the Air Force 1 sneaker was introduced to the Nike collection, and though it has maintained the classic design, these popular shoes now boast a variety of colours and patterns to suit any style, and pair with any look. At Foot Locker, we carry an extensive range of Nike shoes and apparel, and the Air Force 1s are one of our favourites!
The history of the Air Force 1
The Nike Air Force 1 debuted in 1982, created as the first performance basketball sneaker to feature air cushioning. In 1984 the shoe was discontinued and re-released in 1986. Its re-release came with the addition of the distinct Nike swoosh, and over the next few decades, the sneaker became a staple in street fashion.
So what’s kept AF1 sneakers so relevant?
With celebrity basketballers like Moses Malone putting the AF1s on the map, the shoe soon made its way into streetwear; sporting a clean, simple design and all-day comfort. Though created as a performance shoe, the AF1 is today recognised as street style fashion sneaker. While little of its make and design has changed since its creation, it has seen more than 1,700 colour variations over the decades — a true testament to the timelessness of the shoes silhouette.
The Air Force 1 Range at Foot Locker
The original Air Force 1 High Top
The first AF1 design, high tops cut off above the ankle, and feature an adjustable upper strap for secure fit and added cushioning.
Air Force 1 Low
Lows are a popular variation of the original Air Force 1 sneaker that instead cut off at the ankle.
Air Force 1 ‘07
The Air Force ’07 was released to celebrate the 25th year anniversary of the original, with slight modifications to keep up with the concurrent trends.
Air Force 1 ’07 LV8
LV8 stands for ‘elevate’, as the models sole is slightly elevated compared to the regular Air Force 1.
Air Force 1 Flyknit
The AF1 Flyknit features a woven material that’s more lightweight and breathable compared with the classic leather upper – the same shoe at a fraction of the weight!
Air Force 1 Pixel
The Pixel features a distinct textured sole creating a glitchy, pixelated (hence its name!) appearance.
Air Force 1 Shadow
If you prefer a chunkier sneaker, the Air Force 1 Shadow has a thicker sole that adds even more cushioning and extra height.
Air Force 1 Sizing and Fit
The Air Force 1 uses unique Air technology to help absorb impact and cushion each step, while the thick, flat sole provides more stability for all-day wear. Foot Locker stocks Nike shoes in women’s, men’s and children’s sizes.
Women’s and men’s designs have very minor differences, which is why they’re typically seen as a unisex shoe. Usually, women’s shoes are narrower, and are around 1.5 size’s smaller than men’s. So if you’re a women’s size 8, you’ll be a men’s size 6.5-7 and vice versa. If you’re unsure, our online Fit Finder can help.
